In a fast-paced world where technology speeds everything up and enables communication to be faster than you could ever imagine; it is but easy to go about our daily lives never giving a second thought to the amount of carbon dioxide that is released to the atmosphere each time we turn on our appliances at home or in the office. Very few of us could honestly tell that we are truly concerned or even aware of what has been happening to the environment.
Here at iCatchIT, we know that we don’t have to make radical and large scale measures to contribute to the environment and its conservation. We know that the little things we will be doing on a daily basis will surely make an impact towards our goal of contributing to the “Green Efforts” globally. Last April 30, 2008, we implemented our Office Shutdown Procedure. With this new policy, all iCatchIT employees were required to clear their respective workstations and properly turn off all electrical devices at the end of a business day. More so, the last person to go out of the office was made responsible for checking and inspecting all areas of items not switched off and other important items to consider. He or she also has to fill up a checklist to ensure that all items and areas are covered.
In a month’s time, we were happy to announce that our efforts paid off. We have significantly reduced our consumption in terms of kilowatt hour by 14.2%! We obviously have not only conserved energy but also reduced cost! Indeed, small efforts done on a constant basis really pay off.
We will not stop from here though. This is only just the beginning. As we continue with the Office Shutdown Policy, we are also currently drafting out other measures how we could conserve more energy, reduce waste and promote advocacy to the saving the environment. For iCatchIT, this is just a start of more undertakings to come.
